문화지능은 이미 10여 년 전부터 꾸준히 다양한 학문 분과에서 연구가 계속 이루어져 오고 있으며 다양한 학자들이 조금씩은 상이하지만 학문적 축적을 이어오고 있다. 여기에서는 리버모어가 주장하고 있는 문화지능 개념을 개괄해보고 어떤 핵심적 특성과 함의가 고찰될 수 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 리버모어는 그간 반세기 이상 축적된 비교문화연구를 토대로 독자적인 문화지능 모델을 개발하여 글로벌 소통 능력 강화를 위한 연구를 주도하고 있다. 본고에서는 리버모어의 문화지능 모델에서 다른 문화지능 모델과는 차별되며 중요하게 지적되고 있는 사회심리학적 역동성과 관계된 동기와 편견 문제, 종합적인 체계성에 근거한 문화지능- 지식 향상 모델의 이해와 특이성을 하나씩 논해보도록 하겠다. 특히 문화지능-지식의 향상을 위해 자신의 문화정체성에 대한 이해가 그 출발점이라고 하고 있는데 그 이유가 무엇인지도 함께 살펴보도록 하겠다. 문화지능은 앞으로 지속적인 연구와 개발을 통해 보다 나은 교육콘텐츠를 만들어 내야 함은 분명하다. 그때 교육콘텐츠의 핵심 쟁점으로서 위에 제시된 세 가지가 교육적 실행 작업에 온전히 녹아져야 한다고 보기에 본고에서 핵심 쟁점사항으로 다루어 보고자 한다. 이를 바탕으로 앞으로 계속되어야 할 문화지능 교육콘텐츠 개발 연구는 지속적으로 이루어져야 한다고 본다.
Cultural intelligence has been consistently studied in various branches of learning for more than a decade, and various scholars have continued to accumulate the knowledge. Here, we will take a look at some of the key cultural intelligence concepts that Livermore claims, and explore the key features and implications. Based on comparative cultural studies that have accumulated for more than half a century, Livermore has developed its own model of cultural intelligence and is leading the research to enhance its global communication capabilities. We will discuss social and psychological dynamics, which are differentiated from other models of cultural intelligence in Livermore’s cultural intelligence. In particular, he says understanding his cultural identity is the starting point to improve his cultural intelligence. It is clear that cultural intelligence must create better educational content through continuous research and development. At that time, as the core issue of educational content, the three presented above should be fully dissolved in the educational execution work, so I would like to address it as a key issue. Based on this, research on developing cultural intelligence education contents should be conducted continuously.
