오시마 나기사(大島渚)의 영화 <교사형>에 나타난 생소화 효과

The V-Effeckt applied to the <Koshikei, Death by Hanging> directed by Oshima Nagisa

오시마 나기사(大島渚)는 전후 일본영화에서 조선/조선인에 대한 문제의식을 지속적으로 표명해 온 감독이다. 특히 이진우 사건을 모델로 제작한 영화 <교사형(絞死刑)>(1968)은 조선/조선인에 대한 그의 사고가 가장 잘 나타난 작품으로 평가받는다. 오시마 나기사는 이 영화에서 원죄사건으로서의 가능성을 제기하는 기존 예술텍스트와는 달리 ‘현실과 공상’의 경계가 모호한 삶을 살아간 재일조선인 청년의 범행 ‘동기’에 주목한다. 특히 국가권력이 시행하는 사형제도의 폭력성과 전후 일본사에서 부당하게 은폐되어 온 재일조선인 문제를 통해 현실과 영화의 상관성을 부각시키면서 일본/일본인의 정체성을 되묻고자 한다. 오시마 나기사는 고전적이면서도 난해한 영화의 테마를 구현하기 위해 브레히트(Bertolt Brecht) 서사극(the epic theatre)의 핵심인 생소화 효과(V-effekt)를 차용한다. 본고에서는 브레히트적 기법을 통해 주류 영화의 관습적인 서사체를 극복하고자 했던 오시마 나기사 특유의 시네마 전략에 주목하고자 한다. 특히 그가 영화의 테마를 효과적으로 전달하고 관객의 분발을 촉구하기 위해 생소화 효과를 어떻게 적용하였고, 이러한 기법들이 작품에 대한 해석적 지평을 어떻게 배가하고 있는지를 조명해보고자 한다. 이로써 우리는 하나의 스캔들로만 소비되는 어떤 역사에 대한 새로운 지평과 해석의 가능성을 획득하게 될 것이다.

Oshima Nagisa is a film director who treats Zainichi issues consistently among the post war Japanese film directors. His film <Koshikei, Death by Hanging> (1968) motivated by ‘Jinwoo Lee’s case’ is considered as conveying his feeing concerning Joseon/Joseon people very well. Most of artistic texts deal ‘Jinwoo Lee’s case’ with the possibility of falsely accused case but <Koshikei, Death by hanging> directed by Oshima Nagisa shows difference. He fixes his sight upon Jinwoo Lee’s motive and details over the case who is in the blur line between reality and fantasy. He highlights corelationship between a reality and the film through a violence of death penalty enforced by nation and a Zainichi issue which has been unduly hidden from post-war Japanese history and asks people back the identity of Japan/Japanese. Oshima Nagisa uses V-Effekt (Alienation effect) which is a core point of Bertoly Brecht’s Das Epische Theater (The Epic Theatre) to embody a film’s classical but abstruse theme. In this study, we focus on Oshima Nagisa’s cinema strategy which overcome a conventional major film’s narrativity using Brecht’s technique. Especially, we demonstrate how he applies V-effekt to deliver film’s theme effectively and to bring audience’s action out and how those techniques enlarge a prospect of film’s interpretations. With this, we can acquire a possibility of a new prospect and interpretation for a one history which is consumed as a kind of scandal.
