문화재 활용과 가치 증진 관점에서 서산 보원사지(普願寺址)의 특성과 활용 방안

The Characteristics and Utilization of Bowonsa Temple Site in Seosan, Chungnam from the Viewpoint of Cultural Heritage Utilization

문화재에 내재되어 있는 가치를 드러내어 그것을 여러 가지 방법으로 누리거나 새로운 가치를 창출하는 바탕으로 이용함으로써 문화재의 가치를 더욱 증진하는 모든 행위를 문화재 활용이라고 한다. 문화재는 문화적 다양성을 담고 있는 보고(寶庫)로, 그 유형과 지역, 시대, 지리적 조건, 보존 상태 등 여러 가지 기준에 따라 그 특성이 제각각이다. 따라서 문화재 활용은 이러한 문화재의 특성을 충분히 고려하여 이루어져야 한다. 이 연구는 서산마애삼존불(국보)과 보원사지(사적), 보원사지 문화재(보물 5건) 등 국가지정문화재 7건이 함께 있는 보원사지 구간을 대상으로 문화재 활용 관점에서의 특성을 분석하고 활용 방안을 모색한 것이다. 문화재 활용은 그 문화재를 포함하는 문화를 되살려 그것이 살아있는 문화로 제 기능을 회복하게 할 때 가장 효과적이면서도 지속가능한 것이 될 수 있다. 보원사지와 관련 문화재들은 역사적ㆍ문화적 가치와 입지적 특성 등에 비추어 문화를 되살리는 문화재 활용을 실현하기에 적합한 조건을 갖고 있다. 이러한 특성에 주목하여 ‘역사문화마을 가꾸기’를 통한 지구단위 문화재 보존ㆍ활용 방안을 검토하는 것이 이 연구의 주된 내용이다. 개별 문화재 활용을 넘어선 면적(面的) 활용과 지구단위 활용, 문화재를 과거의 산물로만 두는 한계를 넘어 문화를 되살리는 활용 등 새로운 보존ㆍ활용 방안을 모색한다는 점에서 이 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있을 것이다.

By revealing the inherent value of cultural heritage, we can enjoy it in various ways or use it as a basis for creating new value. The utilization of cultural heritage refers to further enhancing the value of cultural heritage in this way. Cultural heritage is a treasure hut that contains cultural diversity, and its characteristics vary according to various criteria such as type, area, age, geographical condition, and preservation status. Therefore, we should utilize cultural heritage with full consideration of the characteristics. In this study, I analyzed the characteristics of the area containing Bowonsa Temple Site(Historic Site) and several nationally designated cultural heritages from the perspective of the utilization of cultural heritage. And I explored ways to utilize and enhance the value of the area. We can utilize cultural heritage most effectively and sustainably by reviving the culture that includes the cultural heritage and letting it recover its function as a living culture. The temple site and related cultural heritages have conditions suitable for realizing the utilization of cultural heritage that revitalize the culture in terms of historical, cultural value and geographical characteristics. Focusing on these characteristics, it is the main content of this study to examine the district-unit preservation and utilization way of cultural heritage through creating ‘historical and cultural village’. We can find the significance of this research in that I seek new ways of preservation and utilization of cultural heritage, such as area-based utilization, district unit utilization, utilization with reviving culture surrounding the heritage.
