《울보 권투부》에 나타난 재일청소년들의 동아리활동과 정체성 찾기

Club activities of Korean adolescents in Japan in the documentary film 《A Cryboy Boxing Club》

다큐멘터리 영화 《울보 권투부》는 2014년 DMZ다큐멘터리영화제 개막작으로 상영된 것으로, 도쿄 조선 중고급학교 내에 있는 권투부 학생들의 일상적 이야기를 담고 있다. 이 다큐멘터리 영화는 여느 재일한인감독들의 영화처럼 사회적이고 정치적인 담론을 생산하는데 초점이 있는 것이 아니라 권투부 학생들의 삶의 이야기와 꿈을, 그리고 정체성의 갈등 문제를 가감(加減) 없이 보여줌으로써 재일 동포 사회의 일원이기도 한 재일청소년들의 고민이 무엇인지를 담아내려는 것이 제작의도라 할 수 있다. 본고에서 우리는 이 다큐멘터리 영화를 통해 재일 동포 사회의 내면(內面)을 재고하는 기회를 갖고자 하며, 더 구체적으로는 i) 재일청소년들이 느끼는 정체성의 문제, ii) 재일청소년들의 동아리 활동의 의의에 대해 논의해보고자 하며, 우리는 이러한 논의를 폴 리쾨르(Paul Ricœur)의 정체성 이론에 기초하여 풀어볼 것이다. 인간의 정체성 탐구는 곧 자기유지(le maintien du soi)에 목표가 있다. 그런데 이 자기유지는 기본적으로 타자에 대한 책임을 윤리적으로 요청받는다. 《울보 권투부》에 이를 연결시켜보면, 다큐멘터리 속의 권투부의 동아리활동이 결국 재일청소년 개개인들의 정체성 형성에 기여하면서 동시에 동포 커뮤니티와의 윤리적 연대로 이어진다는 것이다. ‘국가 속의 작은 국가(a nation within nations)’를 형성하고 있다고 해도 과언이 아닌 재일동포사회, 그 디아스포라적 정체성의 일면을 다큐멘터리 영화 《울보 권투부》를 통해 들여다봄으로써 재일동포사회에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓혀보려는 것이 본고의 연구목표이다.

The documentary film 《A Cryboy Boxing Club》 which was screened in 2014 <DMZ International Documentary Film Festival> shows a school life of a member of boxing club in north korean schools in japan. The documentary film not focus on a social and political issue like a usual director of Korean residents in Japan but focus on a woe of student in Korean residents in Japan by showing identity problems, life and dream of a member of boxing club. In this study, we want to have a chance of reconsidering compatriot community’s inner side. To be more concrete, ⅰ) A woe of student in Korean residents in Japan ⅱ) The purpose of this study is to discuss the significance of students’s club activities in compatriot community. And we will debate this discussion based on Paul Ricœur’s identity theory and ethics. The quest for human identity has a goal in self-maintenance(le maintien du soi). However, basically self-maintenance requires human to have responsibility for to the others ethically. Linking it to 《Cryboy Boxing Club》, activities in boxing club eventually contribute to the formation of each member’s identity, being connected to ethical solidarity with compatriot community in japan. It is not an exaggeration to say that “society of Korean Resident in Japan” is forming a ‘nation within nations’, The purpose of this study is to broaden the understanding of the compatriot community in japan by looking at the diasporic identity through the documentary film 《A Cryboy Boxing Club》.
