귀농ㆍ귀촌 지원을 위한 약ㆍ식용식물검색 앱 개발 제언

A Proposal to Develop a Mobile Application for Automatic Identification of Medicinal and Edible Plants

생계와 같은 경제적 이유와 전원생활 및 환경과 같은 건강상의 이유 때문에귀농ㆍ귀촌 인구는 1997년 IMF 경제위기 이후 지속적으로 증가하여 왔고, 귀농ㆍ귀촌자의 연령은 점차 낮아지고 학력은 높아지는 추세를 보이고 있다. 농촌지역에서 흔하게 발견할 수 있는 약ㆍ식용식물에 대한 지식은 귀농ㆍ귀촌에서 가장 기초적인 필수요건임에도 불구하고 도시 출신 귀농ㆍ귀촌자가 정확한지식을 쌓는 데에는 상당한 시간과 타인의 도움이 있어야 가능하다. 스마트폰이나 태블릿 PC와 같은 모바일기기의 보급과 사용이 보편화되어 버린 상황에서 약ㆍ식용식물의 잎을 모바일기기로 촬영하여 어떤 식물인가를 그 자리에서확인할 수 있다면 농촌 정착 과정은 보다 용이해질 것이다. 이런 배경에서 본 논문은 귀농ㆍ귀촌을 지원할 수 있는 모바일기기를 활용한 약ㆍ식용식물 검색앱의 개발을 제안하는 데 그 목적이 있다.

The number of the Korean people who leave the city and move to the countryside for money or health has incessantly increased since the economic crisis of 1997. They are relatively younger and have more academic backgrounds than most professional farmers, which means that the migrators can use IT devices skillfully but they do not have much knowledge on medicinal and edible plants around. And it usually takes a considerable time for the migrators to identify medicinal and edible plants, and it might be impossible without any help of the farmers and residents living there. If a mobile application that helps users identify medicinal and edible plants from photographs of their leaves were developed, the app could be helpful for the migrators to settle down in the countryside. The purpose of this study is to suggest developing a mobile app which identifies herbal and edible plant species automatically.
