무형문화유산으로서의 진주오광대 가치와 축제로서의 ‘진주탈춤한마당’ 고찰

The Value of Jinju Ogwangdae as An Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and to Study on ‘Jinju Mask Dance Festival’

본 논문은 서부경남에서 발생하여 현재까지 전승되고 있는 진주오광대의 가치를 조명하고 그것의 발전 방향을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 특히 진주오광대는 진주지역에서 연희되는 전통탈춤으로 ‘진주정신’을 예술적 행위를 통해 드러내는 수단이기도 했다. 무엇보다 진주탈춤은 이 지역의 또 다른 무형문화유산인 의암별제가 관주도로 행해지면서 전승되고 있는 관속예술이라는 점과 구별되는 민속예술로서 민간 주도로 전승되고 있다는 점에서 의미가 더욱 있다. 왜냐하면 진주오광대는 예술적 가치는 물론 시대적 상황을 즉시 반영하는 대사의 현장성과 언어적 묘사를 통해 다양하게 접목하면서 발전함으로써 독특한 저항정신을 담고 있기 때문이다. 전통적인 마당을 통해 관객과 연희자가 하나되어 해학적으로 메시지를 전달하고 있는 우리 민속예술의 특징을 미래세대에게 유지 전승하는 것은 바람직할 것이다. 그래서 현대적 감각에 맞는 축제 방식 제안하고자 한다. 특히 과거세대와 현재세대, 미래세대가 어우러지는 마당인 진주탈춤 축제를 통해 다양한 퍼포먼스 기회를 제공함으로써 전통문화 향유를 통한 소통과 공감을 자연스럽게 유도하고자 하며 그 방법 중 하나로 오광대 대동제를 제안한다.

The goal of this study is to illuminate the value of Jinju Ogwangdae, which originated in the west part of Gyeongnam to be passed down in rural areas, and to figure out ways to develop the dance in further steps. Jinju Ogwangdae is a traditional mask dance performed in the area of Jinju it also has been a way of expressing ‘The Spirit of Jinju’ through artistic actions. Jinju Ogwangdae not just has its artistic values but also embraces a unique spirit of resistance as it was developed by grafting in various ways through linguistic descriptions. As a way to naturally induce communication and sympathy through the enjoyment of traditional culture by providing various opportunities of performances via Jinju Mask Dance festival, which is a ground for the past, present, and future generation to harmonize, this study suggests Ogwangdae Daedongje.
