관광객이 지각하는 지역문화 캐릭터 이미지에 관한 연구

Study on the Tourists’ Perceptions of Character Images of Regional Cultures: Centered on Nongae’s Character Image

본 연구의 목적은 경상남도 진주시의 대표 캐릭터인 논개의 이미지를 논개 고유의 역사적 이미지와 비교하여 인물이 지녀야 할 이미지가 캐릭터에 반영되고 있는지 분석하기 위함이다. 연구 목적에 접근하기 위하여 NVivo 10 프로그램을 활용하여 제시된 캐릭터 이미지와 실제 역사적 인물의 이미지의 차이를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 실제 역사적 이미지는 개발된 캐릭터 이미지와 차이가 있음이 확인되었다. 인물과 관련된 캐릭터는 내외적으로 실제의 이미지적 특징을 반영해야 한다는 시사점을 본 연구는 제시하고 있으며 이는 캐릭터 제작에 있어서 친근감보다 우선시 되어야 한다는 것이다. 캐릭터가 어떤 인물인지를 지각할 수 없다면 관광 상품, 지역 홍보 등에 효과를 극대화하기에 어려움이 있을 수 있다. 본 연구의 결과를 고려하여 지방자치단체는 실제 이미지에 대한 검토가 우선되어야 하며, 캐릭터에 반영하기 위하여 제작자에게 충분한 전달이 이루어져야 한다. 그리고 역사, 캐릭터 등과 관련된 전문가를 구성하여 보다 실제 인물의 이미지에 접근한 캐릭터 개발이 이루어져야할 것이다.

This study aims to compare the character image of ‘Nongae’, a representative character of Jinju City, Gyeongsangnam-do with her unique historical image, thereby analyzing whether the image she should have is reflected in her character. In order to approach the objective of this study, NVivo 10 program was used to analyze differences between the presented image of the character and her actual historical image. According to the analysis result, her actual historical image differed from the developed character image of hers. This study presents a suggestive point that the character related to a person should reflect actual characteristics of his or her image and this should be prioritized over friendliness in producing a character. If it cannot be perceived what kind of person a character is, it is difficult to maximize the effects in sales of tourist goods and regional promotion. In consideration of this study result, local governments should review actual images of characters and sufficient delivery should be made in order to reflect such images in characters. In addition, experts related to history or characters should be utilized to develop characters close to actual images.
