An Exploratory Study on the Social Function of Abstract Art

이 논문은 예술계에서 표현의 자유가 확장되고, 다양한 장르가 출현하면서예술의 사회적 역할이 부과되었는데, 추상미술에서도 이러한 예술의 사회적 역할이 실현 되어 왔음을 소개한다. 요셉 보이스의 사회적 조각을 토대로 추상미술이 작가의 주관적인 표현이나 해석이 아니라, 사회적으로 소통 가능한 추상성과 표현성이 강화되었는데, 이를 기반으로 19세기 추상화가들의 작품을 분석을 시도하였다. 네 명의 화가들의 작품을 가장 낮은 단계부터 높은 단계의추상화의 사회적 역할을 나열하였다. 첫째, Piet Mondrian 작업은 자연환경과작가의 배경과 사상이 반영되었고, 둘째, Richard Diebenkorn는 공공장소의작업과, 일상 소품를 재료로 활용하므로 관객의 공감과 소통을 시도하였다. 셋째, Agnes Martin and Mark Tobey는 인간이 누구나 갖을 수 있는 감정과 마음의 소리를 소재로 삼아 추상성을 나타내었다. 마지막으로 St. Ives Artist 그룹은 그 지역을 거점으로 공동 활동을 통해 지역성이 반영된 새로운 풍경추상화를 창조하므로 지역민과의 소통, 지역환경과의 소통을 시도한 사례이다. 결론적으로 추상미술의 사회적 역할은 시대가 발전하면서 확장되었고, 공통적으로 추상화의 추상성, 표현성을 기준으로 발달하였다.

In this paper, the freedom of expression in the arts is expanded, the emergence of various genres were imposed while the social function of art, abstract art is also always insisted that they realize the social function of these arts. This abstract art is a subjective expression of the artist based on the theory of social sculpture of Joseph Beuys as well, abstraction and expressiveness that can communicate with the social been strengthened. It will be introduced step-by-step abstract as social. Consequently, the social function of abstraction has been expanded as the age advances, the function can be found in the abstraction and expressiveness.
