애니컬(Anical) 연출방법 연구

A Study of Directorial Ways of Anicals: Focused on Anical <Canimal> Production

최근 국내에서 애니메이션이 뮤지컬로 미디어믹스된 애니컬(Anical)이 많이 제작되고 있지만 세계적인 추세에 비해 아직 시작단계에 머물고 있다. 그리고 애니메이션의 뮤지컬화, 즉 애니컬 제작 및 연출에 관한 연구 또한 전무한 실정이다. 기존의 선행연구들은 주로 문화적, 경제적인 측면의 연구에 초점을 맞추고 있어, 작품 자체에 관한 실제적인 선행연구사례나 분석은 없는 실정이다. 그래서 세계적으로 애니컬 시장을 주도하고 있는 디즈니 씨어트리컬 그룹(Disney Theatrical Group)을 분석하고, 애니컬 제작과정의 실제적인 특성을 파악하고자 한다. 그 구체적인 사례로서 필자가 제작ㆍ연출한 애니컬 프로덕션인 뮤지컬 <캐니멀(Canimal)>을 중심으로 고찰할 것이다. 애니컬 제작단계에서 연출적으로 가장 중요한 세 가지는 차별화된 스토리텔링, 인터랙티브 멀티미디어의 활용, 관객을 사로잡을 수 있는 음악이라고 할 수 있다. 애니메이션에 없는 완전히 새로운 대본을 창작하여 공연에 적합한 최적의 스토리텔링을 구축하는 것이 중요하다고 판단된다. 애니메이션에는 없는 오로지 애니컬에서만 목격할 수 있는 새로운 스토리텔링이 필요하다. 그리고 공연이라는 전체적인 미디어 표현의 양식 안에 다양한 미디어적 요소들을 결합하여 멀티미디어 공연 양식을 창작하는 것이 절실하다. 4D로 표현되는 시청각외의 다른 감각적 요소들이 그러한 멀티미디어적 속성을 부각시킬 수 있다. 애니컬이 잘 만들어지기 위해서는 애니메이션 단계에서부터 음악적인 부분에 대한 고려가 반드시 필요하다. 거꾸로 애니컬에 대한 고려가 애니메이션에 반영되어 디즈니처럼 뮤지컬적인 애니메이션이 초기에서부터 제작되어야 한다. 국내 애니컬이 세계적인 흐름에 합류하여 K-Anical이 탄생하기 위해서는 정부와 대기업의 지속적인 투자와 노력이 절대적으로 요구된다.

Recently, a lot of media mixed Anicals which are transformed from animations are being produced in Korea, but they are in early stage globally yet. There are so many preceding researches about this theme, but they have focused on the studies of cultural and economical sides and have not analyzed the Anycal production itself in terms of practical production viewpoints. I will analyze the Disney Theatrical Group that conquers global Anical markets and examine the practical processes of producing and directing Anicals. I will study the Anical production, <Canimal> that I directed and produced as a practical example. There are three important elements in terms of directing Anicals: the first is differentiated storytelling, the second, the use of interactive multimedia, the third, the enchanted music. It is the most important to create a brand new script which is the most suitable to Anical instead of animation’s one and establish the best storytelling technique. Creating the style of multimedia shows, which various media elements combined with other ones simultaneously is also crucial in Anycal such as 4D attractions in famous theme parks. Considering musical elements from early creating animation steps is also necessary. Like Disney animation, musical animation which focuses on musicality can help us to create the best Anical. I hope Korean Anicals could join the mainstream of global Anical industries and K-Anical would be born soon. Continuous investments are necessarily needed by Korean government and major companies.
