This paper examines financial characteristics of zero dividend firms that are divided into continuous zero dividend vs. omission zero dividend portfolios and profitable zero dividend vs. non-profitable zero dividend ones. The samples include manufacturing firms that are listed on Korea Exchange for the period from March 1999 to February. 2009. We find that omission zero dividend firms have higher operating income whereas continuous zero dividend firms have higher BPS and retention ratios. We also find that ROE is significantly related to profitable zero dividend firms.
