타로카드의 이미지에 관한 지각원리 고찰

A Study on the Perception of Tarot Card Image - Focusing on Gestalt’s Perceptual Principle-

게슈탈트란 모양, 패턴 등을 뜻하지만, 게슈탈트 이론은 ‘전체는 부분의 합 그 이상의 의미를 지닌다’는 것에 큰 의미를 둔다. 다시 말해 게슈탈트 심리학은 주로 지각 실험에 근거를 두며, 모든 것을 분해하려는 ‘원자론적’ 구성개념에 반대하면서 ‘전체로서의 유기체’라는 개념을 강조한다. 따라서 게슈탈트 상담의 목표는 한 사람으로 하여금 자신의 모습과 행동 패턴, 그리고 자신의 전체성을 탐색·발견·체험하게 해주며 최종 목적은 자신의 모든 분리된 부분들을 통합하는 것이며 미발현된 자신을 실현하는 데 있다. 타로상담 시 해석자는 보통 여러 장의 선택된 타로 이미지 각각의 의미를 종합하여 해석하게 되는데, 이때 해석을 위한 지각의 원리가 동반된다. 따라서 내담자가 여러 장의 파편적인 타로의 그림을 인식하는데 있어 ‘유기적이며 통합된 건강한 지각적 인식체계’를 가졌는지를 판단하기 위해, 게슈탈트의 지각적 조직화의 원리인 6가지 경향성(전경과 배경, 완결, 단순화, 유사성, 근접성, 연속성)의 관점에서, 피 실험자들에게 타로카드 해석을 유도하였다. 그 결과 피실험자들 대부분이 타로카드를 해석함에 있어 게슈탈트의 ‘지각의 원리’를 잘 따르고 있다는 사실을 알 수 있었지만 그렇지 못한 사람도 발견되었다. 이를 통해 타로카드가 게슈탈트의 심리평가 도구로 유의미할 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Gestalt means shape, pattern, etc., but Gestalt’s theory has a great meaning in that the whole means more than the sum of its parts. In other words, Gestalt psychology is largely based on perceptual experiments, and emphasizes the concept of “organism as a whole”, as opposed to the “atomic” construct that attempts to disassemble everything. The goal of Gestalt Counseling, therefore, is to enable one person to explore, discover, and experience his or her own appearance, behavioral patterns, and his wholeness. The end goal is to integrate all the separate parts and to realize the unexpressed self. In tarot counseling, the interpreter usually interprets the meaning of each of several selected tarot images, accompanied by the principle of perception for interpretation. Therefore, in order to judge whether the client has a ‘organic and integrated healthy perceptual cognitive system’ in recognizing several fragmented tarot pictures, I induced the test subjects to tarot interpretation from the standpoint of the six trends (Figure-ground, Figure-background, Completion, Simplification, Similarity, Proximity, Continuity). As a result, it was found that most of the test subjects were following Gestalt’s ‘Principle of Perception’ in interpreting tarot cards, but it was found some opposite cases as well. This shows that tarot cards can be meaningful as Gestalt’s psychological evaluation tool.
