Analysis of Educational Change in Gifted Education Depending on Gifted Education Areas

The purpose of this study was to examine teachers’ perception of educational needs and educational change in gifted education depending on gifted education areas in the 4th industrial revolution. For this purpose, we surveyed 221 gifted teachers. The results are follows. First, Most teachers perceived gifted education and the educational reform in gifted education are necessary, but our gifted educational system is not ready for the change. Second, Teacher perceived creativity, critical thinking/problem solving abilities and cooperation are important abilities for the gifted students in the future. Especially, educational needs for science gifted areas are communication, creativity, critical thinking/problem solving abilities and curiosity. However, educational needs for liberal arts gifted areas are creativity and persistence. Finally, most gifted teachers perceived educational innovation in gifted educational curriculum and contents development in gifted educational curriculum is the most urgent. Also, educational change in gifted identification, educational curriculum and contents, professional development strategy, and gifted educational policies are discussed between science and non science areas. Implications of the study were discussed in depth based on the results.
