Body Operation Methods for Taekwondo Training

  • 103

This study aims to provide base material for the technical development of Taekwondo through body operation methods for Taekwondo training with regard to Taekwondo technique expansion plans. For this, this study deduced the following conclusions through literary research. First, of main body parts, the upper segment refers to the face (the neck·philtrum, etc.), the middle segment includes the torso and arms (shoulders·elbows·hands, etc.), and the lower segment refers to the legs (hip·knees·feet, etc.) and these are parts representatively used in Taekwondo motions. Second, body operation methods include control of the eyes·control of the torso·control of the arms as upper body operation methods and control of the legs as the lower body operation method. Attention (the eyes) allows the mind to broadly operate detailed parts of the body and energy (氣) is collected into the lower part of the abdomen, allowing the mind to concentrate in a serene posture (meditation).Third, movement completion methods of Taekwondo are expressed with the mind (energy (氣)·the eyes·breathing), skills (understanding of movement·posture·balance·harmonious energy (hardness and softness and speed)·change·completion), and symbols (taegeuk·yin and yang). Movement speed is operated through tempo. Body techniques must make one’s self smooth and incapacitate the opponent. The completion of movements must be expressed harmoniously with regard to force. Understanding must be made of principles in which the taegeuk and the eight trigrams are applied. Understanding is to be made that the harmonious energy of yin(陰)·yang(陽) coincide.
