유아의 수학 패턴 과제 유형에 대한 시선 이동 특징 분석

Eye movement characteristics for the types of mathematics patterning in young children

본 연구는 수학 패턴 유형에 대한 유아의 시선 이동 특징을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 시선추적 방법을 활용하여 유아가 어떤 유형의 패턴 과제를 가장 잘 해결하는지, 과제 해결과정에서 시선이 어느 부분에 오래 머물고, AOI 간 시선이 어떻게 이동하는지를 통해 문제해결 과정을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 만 4세아를 대상으로 패턴 생성방식인 반복, 대칭, 회전 패턴과 표현형태인 그림, 숫자로 제시된 6개의 과제에 대한 정답률, 시선전환, 히트맵을 분석하였다. 연구결과에 의하면 첫째, 패턴 과제 정답률은 반복, 대칭 순으로 높았으며 회전 패턴이 가장 낮았다. 둘째, 패턴 과제에 대한 AOI 간 시선전환의 경우 패턴 생성방식과 표현형태 모두에서 유의한 차이가 있었으며, 문제와 예답 간의 시선전환 빈도가 가장 많았다. 셋째, 수학 패턴 과제에 대한 히트맵 분석에서 패턴 과제 모두에서 문제와 답지 중 문제 부분에 더 많은 시선고정을 보였다. 이상의 연구결과는 유아가 어떤 과제를 어려워하는지 그래서 어떤 순서로 패턴 과제를 제시하며 어떤 과정을 통해 패턴을 이해하고 문제를 추론 및 해결하는지에 대한 구체적 정보를 제공하고 있다.

In this study, we have explored the pattern problem solving process by using the eye-tracking method through what types of pattern tasks young children are good at solving, where fixations appear in the task resolution process, and how fixation switches appear between AOIs. The answer rate, fixation switches and heat map for six tasks were analyzed according to pattern generation method and type of expression for 4-year-old children. The research results are as follows. First, the answer rate was the highest with the repetition pattern, and the symmetric pattern was the second highest. Rotation patterns were equally the lowest. Second, there have been significant differences in both pattern generation methods and type of expression between AOIs in fixation switch for pattern tasks, and the frequency of fixation switch between questions and answers was the highest. Third, in the heat map analysis for the math pattern task, more eye fixation was shown in the problem part of both the problem part and the answer part in all the pattern task. The above findings are meaningful in that they provide specific information about how to present pattern tasks to young children, what tasks are difficult, and how young children understand patterns and deduce and solve problems.
