외국인직접투자의 파급효과와 중국의 지역 간 생산성 격차

Spillover Effect of Foreign Direct Investment and Regional Productivity Disparity in China

본 논문에서는 OLS회귀분석과 분위수 회귀분석을 이용하여 대중국 외국인직접투자가 중국 국내제조업의 생산성에 미치는 파급효과를 분석하고, 그것이 어떻게 동부연해지역과 내륙지역 간 생산성 격차에 영향을 미치는지에 대해 고찰한다. 이 논문은 중국에 대한 지역별 비교연구로써 국내제조업 생산성에 미치는 외국인직접투자의 파급효과를 수평 및 전후방연관 효과로 나누어 산업전체적인 맥락에서 분석한다. 또한 국내기업의 인적자본, 연구개발투자와 같은 기술흡수능력과 외국인투자기업과 국내기업 사이의 기술격차가 어떻게 국내기업의 생산성에 영향을 미치는 가를 설명한다. 추정결과는 우선 중국의 국내기업들은 외국인투자기업들로부터 양의 생산성 파급효과를 보게 되는데 이 파급효과는 주로 전방연관을 통해 유발된다는 것을 보여준다. 전방연관 효과의 추정치는 내륙지역에서 더 크게 평가되는데 이것은 그만큼 내륙지역에 외국인직접투자를 유치하기가 어렵다는 것을 말해준다. 그리고 국내 기업의 기술흡수능력 역시 기술격차와의 상호작용을 통해 성장률과 총요소생산성에 양의 파급효과를 미치게 되는데, 그 추정치는 내륙지역보다 동부연해지역에서 더 큰 것으로 평가되었다.

In this paper, we analyse productivity spillover effects from FDI to Chinese domestic manufacturing sectors using both of OLS and Quantile regression and study how they differ in east coastal area and hinterlands, respectively. As a comparative study on Chinese regions, this paper analyzes the productivity spillovers from existence of foreign facilities in the context including whole sectoral linkages of horizontal, backward and forward. In addition, this paper explains how the absorptive capacity of domestic firms such as human capital and R&D activities, and technology gap between foreign and domestic firms effect to the productivity of China’s domestic firms. Estimation results show the existence of spillover effects from FDI to Chinese domestic manufactures and they are mainly occurred through forward sectoral linkage. Coefficients of forward spillover in hinterlands were larger than that of east coastal area and this shows the difficulty of inducing foreign investors to hinterlands And absorptive capacity of China’s domestic firms were found to derive productivity spillovers to domestic firms in the relations to technology gap and estimators were larger in east coastal area than that of hinterlands.
