Foreign Direct Investment and Regional Economic Development: The Case of Korean Investment in Tianjin

This paper analyzes the relation between foreign direct investment and regional economic development in the case of Korean investment in Tianjin. Most of research uses the macro approach, and analyzes the relation between FDI and regional economic development from the amount aspect. But this paper analyzed the relation from micro approach. This paper use three aspects and analyzes the relations and effects, that is, regional linkage, regional employment, and regional trade. The results find, first, the industrial linkage has an important role in Tianjin regional economic development, and backward industrial linkage has more strong role than forward industrial linkage. Secondly, the regional employment effect has an important role, but has some structure characteristics, for example the outer-region’s employment bigger than inner-region’s employment. Thirdly, the regional trade also has an important role and relation.
