An Empirical Analysis on the Export competitiveness of Korean General Machine Industry in China, U.S., Japan Markets

The purpose of this study is to find policy suggestions by empirically analyzing the export competitiveness of Korean general machine industry. The empirical analysis is mainly based on different measures of TSI, RCA, CAC. To calculate these indices of Korean general machine industry for the period of 2002-2007, the WTA(world trade atlas) trade matrix and KOTRA Data are mainly used. The empirical results show that Korean general machine industry has export specialization in main export markets, but almost items have comparative disadvantage. Therefore diversification strategy of export market and strengthening strategy of export competitiveness should be enforced. In addition, technology innovation and cost reduction should be further facilitated in order to overcome any unfavorable change in trade environment in Korean general machine industry.
