A Comparison of Korea s Trade Structure Versus China and U.S.

This study examines the specific product-basis trade structure between Korea and U.S. and Korea and China. While a separate analysis of industry-basis international trade structure Korea and U.S. or Korea and China gives us a broad understanding, respectively, it can t give us the exact and deep insight and comparing the two trade structures between Korea and U.S. and Korea and China. Thus this paper compares the specific product-basis analysis on international trades structure between Korea and U.S. and Korea and China using the recent 2001-2005 trade statistical data. Several specific product-basis trade structure tests such as intra-industry trade index and market comparative advantage index show that there are considerable differences in intra-industry trade structures and Market Comparative Advantages in U.S. and China according to specific product even within the same industry. There are some changes in intra-industry trade structures and Market Comparative Advantages in U.S. and China during year 2001-2005.
