An Analysis on the Relationship between Exports and Growth in Asian Countries

This research investigates the relationship between exports and economic growth, employing panel unit root and cointegration methodology. It uses annual panel data on twelve Asian countries’ key macroeconomic variables in empirical analysis. Different panel unit root tests confirm that the data series are integrated processes (I(1)) with unit roots. The regression equations are estimated by various panel cointegration estimators. It finds that there is a strong positive two-way interactive mechanism between exports and output growth. The exports of high income and high investment countries seem to have somewhat larger output enhancement effects than those of low income and low investment nations. Policy implications of the empirical results on economic development strategy are presented.
