China’s domestic-demand market has been rapidly growing along with its economy. Findings suggest that its strong growth was heavily supported by the electronics, steel, and chemical industries. After examining the market share of imports in the China’s domestic-demand market, it showed that its market penetration rate to the industries has steadily rose, ever since China joined the WTO. This is evident in industries, such as electronics, and precision machinery. One may note that the market penetration rate for the transportation equipments has declined. This is because local companies are strengthening their competitiveness, and multinational corporations are entering the China’s market. After analyzing market share of foreign countries in China’s domestic-demand market, it showed that the shares of Japan and US have declined over the years, while the ASEAN showed a strong growth. In addition, Korea’s market share in China steadily keeps around 10%. By utilizing the MCA index, electronics products from ASEAN had the high competitiveness, and the competitiveness for other products, such as boiler and organic chemistry, also rose. The implications of the results were as follows. Firstly, the liberalization of domestic-demand market has been realized since China joined the WTO. This can be supported by the fact that the market penetration rate by the foreign goods has inclined. Secondly, Korean products are facing intense competition with other foreign goods in the China’s import market. Not only do Korean products have to compete against the developed countries such as US, and Japan, but it has to also compete with products from ASEAN. As FTA becomes prominent between China and ASEAN, the possibility of more intense competition between Korea and ASEAN would be likely.
