A Study on the Important of Cooperation for Standardization in Economic Cooperation in Northeast Asia

Economic blocks such as NAFTA, EU, and APEC have been formed around the world and higher interdependence which was caused by increased trade and investment among countries have been increasing those regional economic cooperation to proliferate. Recently China s joining in WTO makes neighboring countries including Korea and Japan involve further several economic cooperations. Standardization-cooperation in globalizing economic environment is very important issue because standardization itself is regarded as competitiveness. However, Korea, China, and Japan have low status in international standard fields in spite of their economic and technical competences. As rates of trading have increased and forming an economic cooperation has become a key issue, this concept of standardization-cooperation among three countries has critical value. Standardization-cooperation among three countries will provide higher status and competitiveness to all three countries. It is necessary for all three countries to cooperate with each other in terms of standardization and there must be an immediate cooperational relationship set up and effort for the sake of economic cooperation among three countries.
