초등영어 교수 효과성 분석 연구의 동향

The trends in research on the effectiveness of elementary English teaching in Korea: Focusing on domestic education journals published by 2019

The purpose of this study is to examine the trends in domestic studies focused on the effectiveness of elementary English teaching. All studies related to Korean elementary English teaching published until 2019 were collected through manual and electronic searches. Among them, 615 articles were selected according to the eligibility criteria. The numbers of articles, researchers, methods, participants, topics and domains of studies by curricula period were examined. Studies on examining the effectiveness of elementary English instruction have increased since 1997, when English was allowed to be taught as a regular subject in elementary schools. Many articles were conducted by university professors and elementary school teachers, showing that university and elementary school fields actively interact. In terms of method, the most common type was quantitative research, although mixed studies also increased. Regarding participants, there were more studies on fifth and sixth graders than studies on third and fourth graders. In terms of research topics, the use of ICT and children’s literature were the topics with the largest number of studies. As for domains, spoken language was emphasized but interest in written language has been increasing as of late. In the affective domain, many studies examined the increase of interest, confidence and participation of learners.
