A Comparative Analysis of Reform of Price System between China and North Korea

The purpose of this article is a study of characteristics and interpretations and prospect of north korea s reform of price system in terms of a comparative analysis of reform of price system between China and North Korea. Chinese economic reform began in 1978 with the adoption of a market economy. The successful achievement of adopting a market economy depends on the level of substitution planning price for market price. On the contrary, the north korea began so lately to reform of price system with vague framework in July, 2002. The results of study follow as : The early stage conditions of reform of price system between china and north korea is completely different in terms of the level of inflation, shortage of necessities, function of planning and distribution, and so on. The north korea s reform of price will face with severe difficulties such of eruption of repressed inflation on accounts of absolute shortage of production and materials, deeping of distortion of price system, and breakdown of a remained planning function. In order to solve faced problems should be provided necessities and materials in the level of taking economic stability through external sides including south korea and other countries in the short term. The china s reform of the price system in 1980s has been promoted under the framework of a socialist planned economy, but, in 1990s it has been discussed and promoted beyond the framework of these kinds of socialist characteristics. Compared with china s purpose of reform of price system, although north korea focused on a first stage of price reform of china, the ways and means of price reform have similarities with more advanced price liberalization of china, in 1990s . The north korea s reform of price system should be promoted step by step by adapting china s means and diversified ways of reform of price system.
