인간은 평생 자기 발전 할 수 있고, 자기 발전해야 하는 존재이기에, 학습자는 자신을 교육의 객체가 아닌 교육의 주체로 설정하는 ‘자기교육(self-education)’이 필요하다. W대학은 가다머의 자기교육 개념을 토대로 고등교육의 본질인 ‘자기형성’과 ‘자기완성’을 위해 평생 동안 쉼 없이 노력하는 인간상을 지향하고자 학습자에게 요구되는 자기교육역량 진단도구를 개발하는 것을 그 목적으로 하였다. 우선 문헌연구를 통해 자기교육역량을 구성하는 요인을 ‘자기교육인식’, ‘자기교육실천’, ‘자기교육성찰’의 세 가지로 정의하였으며, 각 요소에 해당하는 총52개의 문항을 개발하였다. 다음으로 10명의 전문가를 대상으로 2차에 걸쳐 델파이 조사를 실시하였다. 이를 통해 최종적으로 자기교육 인식 11문항, 자기교육 경험 18문항, 자기교육 성찰 11문항의 총 40문항으로 구성된 W대학의 자기교육역량 진단도구를 도출하였다. 도출된 40문항은 내용타당도 기준을 충족하는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 W대학이 나아가야 할 방향에 대하여 제시하였다는 데 의의가 있다.
Persons are beings who can and should develop themselves over the course of their lifetimes. Thus, self-education is required for learners to recognize themselves as educational subjects, not as educational objects. The liberal education in W university aims to develop a diagnostic tool for self-education competence. Hopefully, this tool will help learners as they strive to achieve ‘self-formation’ and self-perfection , not only while they attend university, but for their whole lives through. For based on Gadamer s concept of self-education, this in fact is the essence of higher education. Firstly, some factors constituting the self-education competence were categorized into recognition of self-education , practice of self-education and reflection of self-education . A total of 52 items were developed for the factors. Next, a Delphi survey of ten experts was conducted twice. Finally, we formulated the diagnostic tool to be used for the liberal education in W university. This consisted of a total of 40 items for self-education competence, 11 items for the recognition of self-education, 18 items for the practice of self-education, and 11 items for the reflection of self-education. We found that 40 items drawn met the criterion of content validity. On the basis of these results, this study suggested that this type of diagnostic tool should be made available for self-education competence, as well as argued for the necessity of a follow-up study.
