Purpose - This study examines the challenges of the declaration of origin confirmation system and makes policy suggestions. Furthermore, this paper attempts to explore improvement options of the management system relative to the FTA declaration of origin for secondary and tertiary suppliers in the automotive industry. Design/Methodology/Approach - This study employs the use of case studies based on qualitative research methods. Secondary and tertiary suppliers of automotive industry were selected in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk province considering that automotive parts industry is the main industry in this region. Findings - First, this study found that FTA management system needs legal mandatory system for management of declaration of origin for the CEO level of companies. Second, the system needs to expand the customs clearance system for SMEs. Third, the system needs to develop customized education and online video education contents on declaration of origin management system. Research Implications - Unlike prior studies that explored the effects of FTA utilization and economic ripple effects, this study may be meaningful as a case study pertaining to barriers and improvement of the FTA declaration of origin management system currently being experienced by secondary and tertiary suppliers and working staff.
