전쟁 기억의 경관에 나타난 평화에 대한 고찰

A Study of Peace in the Landscape of War Memory ; Focused on the exhibition of The War Memorial of Korea

우리나라는 6.25전쟁을 집단기억으로 공유하고 있으며 서울의 중심 용산구에 위치한 전쟁기념관은 상징적으로 재현되고 재생산된 전쟁 기억의 경관을 보여준다. 본 연구는 전쟁기념관의 경관이 만드는 평화의 의미가 어떠한 것인지 고찰하고, 이 평화가 단지 전쟁이 없는 상태가 아닌 비폭력적 사회 변혁과 협력을 함축하는 적극적 의미로 작동할 수 있도록 하는 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 답사를 통한 사례연구결과 전쟁기념관은 성스러운 장소로써 공공기념(public service)을 통해 국민적 소속감과 국가정체성을 창출하고 있으며, 전쟁의 배경과 원인과 결과를 다음 세대에 전달하고자 하는 교육을 하고 있다. 또한 국가와 민족을 위해 희생당한 사람들에게 명예를 부여하며 다시는 전쟁을 일으키지 않고 평화를 유지하려는 인도주의적 목적도 달성하고 있다. 또한 성스럽지 않은 전쟁기념물을 판매하거나 개인수집, 레크리에이션 등을 통하여 전쟁을 기념하고 추념하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 전쟁기념관의 목적은 평화에 대하여 소극적 기능에 머물러 있다고 할 수 있다. 전쟁기념관이 왜 필요한 것인가? 전쟁기념관의 경관에서 드러나는 평화의 의미는 단지전쟁과 물리적 폭력을 피하는 소극적인 평화를 말하는 것만은 아닐 것이다. 평화의 의미가 보다 더 적극적으로 작동하는 경관이 되어야 할 것이다. 이를 통해 일상에서의 갈등도 평화롭게 해결하고 더불어 조화롭게 살아가게 하고, 자신에게 만족하고 이웃을 사랑하며 삶을 기뻐하며 행복하게 살아가기 위한 기본적인 가치로 적극적 평화가 중요하며 이를 위하여 전쟁기념관이 필요한 것이다.

It also serves the humanitarian goal of honoring those who have been sacrificed for the nation and people, and maintaining peace without initiating war again. In addition, they are commemorating wars by selling non-sacred war remailns, collecting wars, and recreation. However, the purpose of the war memorial can be said to remain in the negative function of peace. Why is a war memorial needed? The meaning of peace in the landscape of the war memorial is not just about negative peace avoiding war and physical violence. The meaning of peace should be a more positive landscape. Through this, positive peace is important as a basic value to resolve conflicts in everyday life and live harmoniously together, to satisfy oneself, to love one s neighbors, and to live happily, and a war memorial is needed for this.
