박근형 희곡 <모든 군인은 불쌍하다>에 나타난 체화된 전쟁과 폭력의 재현 양상

The Representation of Embodied War and Violence in Park Geun-Hyeong s All Soldiers Are Pitiful

이 논문은 박근형의 작품 속에서 다양한 모습으로 변주되어 나타나고 있는 전쟁과 폭력의 문제에 주목하여 그의 희곡 <모든 군인은 불쌍하다>에 나타난 ‘체화된 전쟁과 폭력의 재현 양상’을 고찰하고 그 의미를 궁구해보고자 했다. 박근형은 <모든 군인은 불쌍하다>를 통해 우리 사회에서 잊기를 강요받았던 죽음의 기억들을 몽타주 방식의 반복적인 구조를 통해 재현함으로써 우리 사회 속에서 제대로 청산되지 못한 전쟁의 잔재와 그로 인한 비극적인 폭력의 변주를 보여준다. 그리고 이를 통해 우리 사회에서 여전히 반복되고 있는 폭력적 구조를 객관적으로 인식하고 자각하게 만든다. 이 작품에서 조명하고 있는 극중 인물들은 체화된 전쟁(embodied war) 속에서 폭력에 노출된 채 죽음으로 내몰린 ‘벌거벗은 생명’, ‘호모 사케르(Homo Sacer)’라고 할 수 있다. 전혀 다른 시공간 속에서 펼쳐지는 각각의 서사들이 분절되고 파편화된 장면들로 교차, 편집되며 속도감 있게 진행되는 이 극의 전개방식은 이러한 폭력에 노출된 호모 사케르적 삶이 ‘지금, 여기’에서 동시다발적으로 일어나고 있는 듯한 극적 효과를 자아내며, 현대인이 처한 삶의 조건 자체를 비극으로서 생생하게 감각하게 만든다. 그리고 이를 통해 개인과 주권 권력 사이에 놓인 근원적인 질문 ‘국가란 무엇인가’에 대한 비판적 성찰을 이끌어낸다. 박근형의 희곡 <모든 군인은 불쌍하다>는 희생적인 죽음을 반복적으로 양산해내고 있는 우리 사회 속 폭력의 굴레와 체화된 전쟁의 양상 그로 인한 호모 사케르적 삶을 직시하게 함으로써 이러한 ‘폭력의 악순환’에서 벗어나기 위해 ‘지금, 여기’ 우리에게 필요한 것이 무엇인지를 성찰하게 만든다. 그런 의미에서 박근형의 <모든 군인은 불쌍하다>는 제대로 청산되지 못한 우리 역사 속 전쟁의 잔재, 망각되고 일상화된 폭력에 대한 재현을 통해 역사적 성찰과 사회적 책무를 동시에 환기하고 일깨우는 작품이라 할 수 있다.

This study set out to examine the reproduction patterns of embodied war and violence in Park Geun-hyeong s play All Soldiers Are Pitiful and investigate their meanings with a focus on war and violence issues that showed difference and repetition and variations in various forms in his works. In his All Soldiers Are Pitiful, Park reproduces the memories of death that people are forced to forget in society through the repetitive structure of the composite technique and shows the remnants of war that have not been settled and healed right in society and the resulting variations of tragic violence, thus making the readers perceive and realize the violent structure that is still repeating in society objectively. The characters highlighted in this work are categorized as Homo Sacer driven toward death in exposure to violence during embodied war. Different narratives unfolding in completely different time and space cross each other in segmented and fragmented scenes and develop at high speed. This development of the play generates dramatic effects that the life of Homo Sacer exposed to such violence happens simultaneously here and now and makes modern people feel their life conditions themselves vividly as tragedy and reflect on a fundamental question, What is a state?, between individuals and sovereign power. With this play, Park makes readers think of what we need here and now to escape from the vicious cycle of violence. In this sense, his All Soldiers Are Pitiful awakens readers to historical reflection and social accountability through the reproduction of memories about the remnants of war that have not been settled right in history and the forgotten violence that has become part of daily life.
