『湖南島嶼』 지도첩의 서지적 연구

A Bibliographical Study on the Honamdoseo(An Atlas of the Islands in Honam Province)

본 논문에서는 국립전주박물관에 소장된 『호남도서』 지도첩의 자료적 특징을 살펴보았다. 본 지도첩은 그동안 사료로서 여러 연구에 활용되어 왔으나 본문에 있는 세부 내용에 대해서는 별도의 연구가 거의 이루어지지 않았었다. 본 글에서는 『호남도서』를 활용하거나 연구하였던 기존의 성과들을 먼저 살펴보고 지도의 서지적 특징과 내용적인 특징을 분석하였다. 각 지역의 채색지도에는 주요 군사시설과 섬이 표기되어 있으며, 고지도에서는 보기 힘든 섬의 소유주에 대한 정보가 수록되어 있다는 점이 타 지도첩과의 차이점이라고 할 수 있다. 본문에서는 각 지역에 대한 다섯 가지 정보를 격식에 맞추어 서술하고 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 19세기 초 당시 전라도에서 관리되던 섬의 개수가 이 지도첩을 통해 304개라는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

This paper aims to investigate bibliographical features of the Honamdoseo (An Atlas of the Islands in Honam Province) held by the National Museum of Jeonju. Hitherto the Atlas has been examined in various research, however its content has not been analyzed in detail. This paper reviews previous studies on Honamdoseo and elucidates its bibliographical and textual features. The Atlas displays major military facilities located in the islands in color and provides information about owners of the islands. This information is hard to find at other old maps. Honamdoseo presents data for each region on five categories. According to the Atlas, Honam (Jeolla) Province managed 304 islands at the beginning of the 19th century.
