The purpose of this paper is to find out the problems which can arise from translating English to-infinitive constructions into Korean and to suggest how to overcome them. These issues are discussed in the framework of the theory of information structure, focusing on English to-infinitive constructions. This paper looks into the differences between English and Korean syntactic structures in terms of information structure. It points out the problems with the traditional English grammar books stating that the English to-infinitive constructions and their variants with the expletive subject it are not different in meaning except for simple stylistic differences. This paper argues that there are differences in implicatures between the different types of English to-infinitive constructions and translators should understand how they are different to be able to translate English into Korean properly. Also, it suggests how to translate English Tough-constructions, ECM constructions, and small clause constructions into Korean. Finally, this paper argues that education about comparative linguistics is important to the students of translation to enhance their translation capacity.
