This paper focuses on three research questions. First, when were Aesop’s fables translated in Korean and how were they published? Second, what was the source text of Aesop’s fables in Korean? Third, what kinds of translation strategies can the author find if the author analyzes the source text and translated text in detail? Aesop’s fables were introduced in Korea at the end of the Josun Dynasty and published in 1896 as a textbook, Sinjung Simsang Sohak. All fables in Sinjung Simsang Sohak were examined to identify their source texts. Analyzing both ‘The Husbandman and his Sons’ in Moral Class-Book and ‘Vineyard’ in Sinjung Simsang Sohak demonstrates three facts. First, the title used in Sinjung Simsang Sohak did not follow the patterns used in the 1800s. Second, the translated sentences in Sinjung Simsang Sohak were frequently deleted or added without any rigid translation principles. Third, the morality between Sinjung Simsang Sohak and the source text was not the same.
