생애사 연구로 고찰한 기독교 여성 목회자의 삶에 관한 사회·문화적 해석

A Social and Cultural Interpretation of the Lives of Christian Female Pastor Based on Life History Research

이 연구에서는 생애사 연구 방법을 사용하여 한국 교회에서의 여성 목회자 삶에 대해 알아보고, 개인의 삶을 사회·문화적 맥락과 연결시켜 깊이 있게 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 여성 목회자 1명을 대상으로 삶에 대해 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였고, 그 의미를 해석적으로 탐구하였다. 연구 결과는 실용적 절충주의 입장에서 종합한 포괄적 분석 절차로 분석하였고, 총 3개의 핵심 범주 ‘목회자 되고자 한 계기’, ‘여성 목회자로서의 나’, ‘여성 목회자로서의 리더십’과 10개의 하위 범주가 도출되었다. 결과를 살펴보면 연구 참여자는 ‘목회자’라는 역할을 수행하는 과정에서 부교역자에 대한 처우와 주변 사람들의 높은 기대감, 여성 목회자에 대한 편견과 차별, 일과 가정 양립의 어려움 등을 경험하였지만, 목회 과정을 통해 자신만의 비전을 확립하고 정체성을 구축해갔음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 이 연구는 연구 참여자의 한 개인의 경험으로 그치지 않고 사회·문화적 맥락과 연결하여 시사점을 제시하고자 하였으며, 여성 목회자들의 성장 경험에 대한 정보를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

This study was conducted to examine a woman’s life path of becoming and working as a pastor in Korean Christian culture in which women are rarely considered as official leaders of church. Women’s life stories were collected through several intensive interviews and qualitatively analyzed to find links to their socio-cultural context. As a result, a total of three key categories including “What Led Me to Become a Pastor”, “Me as a Female Pastor”, and “Leadership as a Female Pastor” were derived along with ten sub-categories. The result showed that women firmly established their identity and constructed their visions as pastors in spite of difficulties such as disrespectful treatment as assistant pastors, the demanding expectations of people around them, sociocultural prejudice and discriminations against female pastors, and burnout in the effort to maintain a balance between work and family life. The results of the study provide information on female pastors’ developmental paths in sociocultural contexts.
