The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Korean culture lessons (KCL) presented by Korean pre-service teachers at overseas elementary schools as part of an overseas teacher training program (OTTP). The topics brought by pre-service teachers for the lessons were also examined. For these, the survey and interviews were conducted. A total of 53 pre-service teachers who attended one-month practicum programs in the USA and New Zealand were the participants in the study. The data analysis showed there were the effects of the KCL. The necessity of KCL practice was highly perceived as the most meaningful part of OTTP. The results also presented that pre-service teachers preferred ‘cultural products’ as the most utilized topic, followed by ‘cultural symbols,’ and ‘cultural practices,’ among the classification of Pesola (1991). For their topic selection, ‘interest’ was the most important criterion, followed by ‘representative nature of culture,’ and others. Based on the results, the development of topics for KCL and the necessity of pre-conference for OTTPs were strongly emphasized. (168 words)
