교사와 일반 취업자의 세대별, 성별 직업윤리 비교

Comparisons of Work Ethics between Teachers at Public Schools and General Workers in Korea

교사는 전문적인 지식과 기술을 요구하는 전문직으로서 투철한 직업윤리를 요구하는 직종이다. 이 연구에서는 일반 취업자와 교사를 대상으로 직업윤리 현황을 기술하고, 두 집단을 세대별, 성별로 직업윤리를 비교 분석하였다. 연구대상은 1955년 출생자부터 1999년의 출생자를 베이비부머(1955년~1963년), 엑스 세대(1964년~1980년), 밀레니엄 세대(1981년~1999년)의 세 세대가 한국판 직업윤리 측정 도구의 축소판(KOWEI_SF) 도구의 설문문항에 응답하였고, 일반 취업자 965명과 교사 640명을 합쳐 총 1,605명이다. 응답 자료를 직업윤리 측정도구의 세 개의 하위 요인인‘대인관계기술’,‘진취성’,‘신뢰성’으로 나누어 세대별, 성별로 t-검정과 다변량분산분석(MANOVA)를 사용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 세 개의 하위요인에서 교사 집단이 일반 취업자 집단보다 평균점수가 더 높게 나타났고, 교사의 베이비부머 세대가 세 개의 모든 하위 요인에서 일반 취업자의 모든 세대보다 더 높게 나타났다. 교사 집단의 성별 비교에서는 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 마지막으로, 연구결과에 대한 논의 및 향후 연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

Teaching is a profession that requires strong work ethics as well as professional knowledge and skills. This study was to describe the degrees of work ethics and compare work ethics between teachers and general workers at public schools including the generation (age) and gender. Participants were from the three generations who were born from 1955 to 1999: Baby Boomers (from 1955 to 1963), Generation X-ers (from 1964 to 1980), and Millennials (from 1981 to 1999), and they responded to the Korean version of the Occupational Work Ethic Inventory-Short Form (KOWEI-SF). A total of 1,605 respondents provided usable data (teachers: 640 and general workers: 965). The three factors of the KOWEI-SF were analyzed, employing a series of independent t-tests and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). Findings suggested that there were statistically significant differences in work ethics between teachers and general workers that Baby Boomers scored the highest in means of the three factors among the generations of teachers, and general workers and that there were no statistically significant differences in work ethics between male and female teachers. The results of the study can provide researchers and professional development practitioners information on the work ethics of teachers with basic resources. Implications and suggestions for further studies are discussed.
