Volute pump used for abalone fisheries farm has a type of a multistage centrifugal pump that is suitable for a large mass flow rate of seawater. In this study, the flow simulation of volute area distribution on the performance of volute pump for fisheries farm was numerically studied using a commercial CFD code. Multi-block grid system is used for the flow field and is divided into five domains, which includes inlet, volute, impeller and lower or upper zones of impeller. It is assumed that the flow field is in a steady state condition and is also incompressible. The flow characteristics inside the volute pump casing are analyzed by a 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. The calculation results show that the slope of the performance characteristic curve of the volute pump casing for abalone fisheries farm can be controlled by modifying the area distribution from volute tongue to volute outlet with fixed volute outlet area as well as varied volute outlet area.
