Who Permits Cheating?

본 연구는 대학생들이 학업부정행위를 허용하는 정도에 미치는 심리적 요인들을 알아보고자 했다. 본 연구에서 다룬 심리적 변인으로는 개인의 부정행위 경험, 부정행위의 보편성에 대한 지각 그리고 사회정체성 등이었다. 이를 위하여 서울에 소재하는 대학에 재학 중인 210명의 학생에게 설문지를 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 개인의 부정행위 경험이 많을수록 부정행위에 대한 판단기준이 덜 엄격했으며, 타인의 부정행위에 대해서도 더 허용적이었다. 부정행위가 보편적이라고 지각할수록 부정행위에 대한 판단기준은 덜 엄격했지만, 타인의 부정행위에 대한 허용 정도에는 유의미한 효과가 없었다. 사회정체성은 타인의 부정행위 허용 정도에 유의미한 주효과를 미치지 않았다. 그러나 개인의 부정행위 경험이 많고 부정행위가 보편적이라고 지각하는 조건에서, 사회정체성이 높을수록 타인의 부정행위를 더 허용했다. 이러한 결과를 도덕적 가치판단에 대하여 상대적ㆍ합의적 윤리를 강조하는 사회적 구성주의 접근에 기초하여 논의하였다. 마지막으로, 학업부정행위를 방지하기 위한 연구결과의 함의와 연구의 제한점을 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate psychological cause of admissible attitude about Academic cheating. For this study, personal experience of cheating, perception of cheating pervasiveness and social identification were investigated. And 210 university students were anticipated. Results were as follows. First, participants with high experience of cheating showed less strict attitude about justice of cheating than did those with low experience of cheating. and participants with high experience of cheating showed more admissible attitude about others cheating than did those with low experience of cheating. Second, participants with high perceived pervasiveness of cheating showed less strict attitude about justice of cheating than did those with low perceivrd pervasiveness of cheating. But high perceived pervasiveness of cheating did not show more admissible attitude about others cheating than group of low perceived pervasiveness of cheating. Third, in condition of participants with that high experience of cheating and high perceived pervasiveness of cheating, participants with high social identifying showed more admissible attitude than any other. This results were discussed as the basis of social constructivism which emphasize relative and mutual consentient ethics. The implications and limitations of these findings were discussed and practical applications to protect academic cheating were also discussed.
