A Study on Analyzing Factors Affecting the Outcome of Korean Professional Baseball Games: A Case of Samsung Lions

스포츠에서 경기승패에 영향을 주는 선수들의 요인을 파악하는 일은 선수의 팀 내에서의 기여도 확인 및 선수연봉 결정을 하는데 필수적인 정보라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 우리나라 프로야구에서 개별 선수 수준에서의 성적이 게임 승패에 얼마나 중요한 영향을 미치는가를 통계적 분석기법 및 관련 소프트웨어를 활용하여 확인하였다. 분석에는 2005년과 2006년 2년 연속 한국시리즈를 우승한 삼성라이온즈의 2000년부터 2006년까지 917게임 중에 무승부 28게임을 제외한 889게임의 환경부분(홈경기, 원정경기, 상대팀)과 투수는 60명 중에서 50게임 이상 출전한 20명의 자료, 타자는 93명 중에서 100게임이상 출전한 타자 28명의 자료를 각각 이용하였다. 통계분석을 위하여 SAS ver 9.1 Enterprise Miner의 로지스틱회귀분석과 의사결정나무분석 방법을 실시하였고, 그 결과를 비교 분석하였다.

It is a vital information to grasp factors of players affecting the outcome of sports games to confirm the degree of player contribution and to determine annual salaries of players. This study ascertained how much the records of individual professional baseball players affect the outcome of a game by utilizing statistical analysis techniques and related softwares. Data from team Samsung Lions, two consecutive years of 2005 and 2006 Korean Series champion, were used. Specifically speaking, environmental factors(home, away, opponents), pitchers(20 out of 60 played over 50 games) and hitters(28 out of 93 played over 100 games) data of 889 games (out of 917 games excluding 28 draws) played between season 2000 and 2006 were used separately. For statistical analysis, logistic regression analysis of SAS Enterprise Miner(ver. 9.1) and decision tree analysis were conducted and the results were compared and presented.
