엑셀을 이용한 붓스트랩 방법의 교육

Teaching of the Bootstrap Method using MS Excel

컴퓨터의 빠른 계산능력을 활용한 통계방법들 중 많은 주목을 받고 있는 붓스트랩(bootstrap) 방법은 여러 영역에서 활용되고 있다. 붓스트랩 방법은 Efron(1979)에 의해 제안되었으며 이는 기저분포에 대한 모수적 가정없이도 표본으로부터 재표본을 취하는 방법에 근거하여 표본분포의 추정에 활용되어 왔다. 그러나 이러한 장점에도 불구하고 실제적인 붓스트랩 방법의 응용은 통계전문가들에게 익숙한 통계패키지인 Splus 혹은 R, Fortran 등과 같은 전문 프로그램을 이용해야 한다는 점에서 통계분야 이외의 일반 자료 분석가들에게는 이용하는데 불편이 있다. 본 논문에서는 최근 손쉽게 이용할 수 있는 엑셀 프로그램을 이용하여 붓스트랩 방법을 활용하는 예를 소개하고 이를 통해 일반 통계이용자들에게 붓스트랩 교육 및 붓스트랩 방법의 활용도를 고취시키는데 있다.

The bootstrap is a computer-intensive method of statistical inference that can answer many real statistical questions without formulas. The bootstrap method was proposed by Efron(1979) can be used for the approximation of a sampling distribution without any parametric assumptions. However, the researchers in other fields have had many difficulties in using the statistical softwares, Splus, Fortran, and SAS language because of their high cost and complexity. Our goal in this paper is to arm scientists and engineers, as well as statisticians, with computational techniques that they can use to analyze and understand the bootstrap method by MS Excel.
