무시할 수 없는 무응답을 갖는 예비조사자료를 이용한 선거예측

Election Forecasting Using Pre-election Survey Data With Nonignorable Nonresponse

본 논문에서는 국회의원 선거나 대통령 선거에 앞서 실시되는 각종 사전조사에서 발생할 수 있는 무응답(non response)이나 결측치(missing data)에 대한 대체 방법에 대하여 연구하였다. 특히 선거와 관련한 여론조사에서 나타날 수 있는 무시할 수 없는 무응답 체계(nonignorable nonresponse mechnism)하에서 최대우도 추정과정에 나타나는 변방값 문제(boundaray solution)를 해결하기 위한 새로운 베이지안 방법을 제시하였다. 우리가 제안한 방법은 사전분포의 모수를 할당하는데 있어서 기존 방법에 비하여 무시할 수 없는 무응답 가정에 충실하도록 하였다. 1948년 미국에서 실시된 대통령 선거의 사전조사 결과를 이용하여 기존방법과 새로이 제시한 베이지안 방법 간의 비교를 수행하였다.

We propose proper methods to impute non response or missing data in pre election surveys or polls based on Bayesian modeling approach. Our methods solve the boundary solution problem of the maximum likelihood method for incomplete categorical data with nonignorable nonresponse mechanism. Our Bayesian models follow nonignorable nonresponse mechanism more explicitly than existing methods. We use pre election survey data of 1948 U. S. President election race to illustrate the methods and to forecast the winner of election.
