Scientific and scholarly communication analysis using hyperlink data: Social network theory and method

월드와이드웹이 학술공동체에서 대중화되고 있음에도 불구하고 웹에서 획득한 데이터를 어떻게 이용하고 혜택을 받을 수 있는지에 대해서 국내 학계에서는 아직 충분히 논의되지 않고 있다. 특히, 학술적 웹사이트간 하이퍼링크 데이터를 이용하여 과학 커뮤니케이션을 분석하는 이론적 분석틀이나 방법론적 기법에 대한 논의는 국내 학계에서 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 사회 네트워크(Social Networks)의 관점에서 어떻게 하이퍼링크 데이터를 이용할 수 있는지에 대해 검토한다.

The World Wide Web represents a new channel for communication in a scientific and scholarly community. More and more scientists and researchers communicate through their HTML-formatted (or Web-accessible) research papers, their personal homepages or their affiliated organizations Web sites (such as a university or academic association). The Internet has changed the way in which scholars communicate and collaborate. It allows for multiple connections among scholars, journals, and scientific organizations through hyperlinks embedded in their Web sites. This paper examines how to apply theoretical frameworks and methodological techniques obtained from Social Network Analysis to the study of a Web-based communication structure within a scientific and scholarly community.
