한국 프로야구와 프로축구의 순위 결정 기준은 통계적 관점에서 합리적인가?

Are the Criteria for Determining Team Ranking in Korean Professional Baseball and Football Reasonable from a Statistical Viewpoint?

스포츠에서 팀들의 순위는 합리적인 기준에 따라 정해져야 한다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라의 프로야구와 프로축구에서 사용되고 있는 순위 결정 기준이 통계적으로 합리적이지 못함을 지적하고 이를 바로잡기 위한 방안들을 제시하였다. 프로야구의 경우 무승부 포함 승률제, 평균승점제, 재정의된 승률에 의한 승률제의 세 가지 방식을 제안하였으며, 프로축구의 경우 평균승점제를 제안하였다. 또한 제시된 방식들을 우리나라 프로야구와 프로축구의 실제 자료에 적용하여 현행 방식에 비해 합리적임을 논하였다.

Team ranking in sports should be determined on the basis of a reasonable criterion. In this study, we pointed out that the criteria being used for determining team ranking in Korean professional baseball and football are not statistically reasonable, and gave some suggestions for correcting the irrationality. For professional baseball, we proposed three methods: (1) method based on the percentage of victories adjusted for draws, (2) method based on the average victory point, (3) method based on the redefined percentage of victories. For professional football, a method based on the average victory point was proposed. The proposed methods were applied to real data from Korean professional baseball and football.
