On the assessment of validity and stability in cluster analysis

This paper is concerned with validity and stability for evaluation of a clustering procedure. The validity of clusters is measured by separation degree of each cluster. A separation measure is proposed and compared with the existing one for particular structured data. Bootstrap method is applied for assessment of the stability of resulting clusters. A numerical illustration is provided for comparative purposes.
