Effects of Working Memory Loads on Spatial Stroop Effects

본 연구는 작업기억의 부하가 선택적 주의에 미치는 영향이 요구되는 자원에 따라 다르다는 선행 연구들을 바탕으로 하여, 작업기억 부하가 공간 스트룹 효과에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 실험 1에서는 공간 작업기억의 부하가 공간-기반 주의뿐만 아니라 대상-기반 주의 수행도 감소시키는 것을 확인하였다. 실험 2에서는 음운 작업기억의 부하가 대상-기반 주의 수행을 감소시키는 것을 확인하였다. 이 결과는 동일한 자원을 공유하지 않는다고 할지라도 작업기억의 부하가 선택적 주의에 영향을 주고 있는 것으로 해석된다. 작업기억은 자극의 선택과 반응의 주의 과정 모두에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사한다.

We investigated the effects of spatial and verbal working memory loads on spatial Stroop effects based on the previous studies, showing that the effects of working memory loads were differentiated by resource modalities to be demanded. In experiment 1, we found that spatial working memory load decreased the performance of both space-based and object-based attention. In experiment 2, verbal working memory load impaired object-based attention. These results suggested that working memory load affected selective attention, even though they did not occupy the same resources. We discussed working memory might have effects on both the selection and the response as the processes of attention
