KLPGA에서 경기기술과 POWER가 상금에 미치는 영향

How Golf Skills and Power of Players Affect their Monetary Prizes in KLPGA Golf

본 논문은 KLPGA에서 2008년 일 년 동안 활약한 상위권 프로골퍼 120명을 대상으로 파워, 정확도, 그린에서 평균 퍼팅 수, 그리고 숏게임 기술 등이 상금에 미치는 영향에 대하여 분석한 것이다. KLPGA에는 경기 기술을 측정하는 많은 통계항목이 있지만 파워, 정확도, 퍼팅, 숏게임 분야를 각각 대표 할 수 있는 평균 드라이브 거리, 드라이브 정확도, 그린 적중률(green in regulation), 그린에서 평균 퍼팅 수, Scrambling 등만을 고려하였다. 분석 대상인 Money(money per tournament)은 정규분포를 따른다고 볼 수 없으므로 Box-Cox 변환을 이용하여 Log변환을 하였다. 상금이 경기기술에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 다중선형회귀모형을 시도하였으나, 각 예측 변수들 간의 상관도가 높아 다중공선성이 존재하였다. 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 주성분 분석을 이용한 요소 점수(factor score)를 이용하여 적절한 모형을 설정하였다. 정대현(2008)의 연구에서는 드라이브거리가 상금을 예측하는 회귀모형에서는 제외되었지만 이번 연구에서는 실제 경기력을 좌우하는 경기 기술 항목들을 고려하여 분석하였다. 결론적으로 그린적중율과 평균 퍼팅수 만이 상금과 스코어를 결정하는 요소가 아니고 드라이브 거리와 숏게임 기술 또한 중요한 요소임을 알 수 있었다. 이와 비슷한 연구는 한국프로야구에 대하여 이장택(2005, 2006)과 조영석(2004)이 진행하였다.

This study examines the effect of power and golf skills on a golfer’s ability to earn monetary prizes in the KLPGA. A very similar study was conducted by Chung(2006). His study focused primarily on monetary prizes and golf skills in LPGA. Additionally, studies of winning in match play were conducted by Cho(2007) and Lee(2006) in baseball. In sports, power as a factor can greatly affect a player’s ability to win, even in golf. There are many statistical variables that can measure golf skills of players. In this study, I will consider only DrDist(driving distance), DrAccu(driving accuracy), GIR(greens in regulation), PPR(puts per round) and scrambling as predict variables which can represent power, accuracy, putting ability, short game ability. The distribution of prize money which is a measure of performance is not followed by normal distribution. To apply multiple linear regression methods, I transform prize money to log. Since there exists multicollinearity between predict variables, it becomes necessary to apply a different method. Finally I can set up significant model that can predict prize money based on factor scores which is obtained by principal component analysis.
