국민연금기금의 주식매매가 주식 가격에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

The Impact of the National Pension Fund Trading on Stock Prices

국민연금기금은 전체 자산 469조원 중 85조를 국내주식에 투자하고 있어 국내 KOSPI 시가총액의 7.03%를 차지하고 있다. 또한 국민연금기금은 일반 투자자의 관심이 높고 공적 연기금의 특성상 운영 및 관리의 측면에서 높은 투명도와 윤리성을 요구받는다는 점에서 일반 기관투자자와 이질적 성격을 가지고 있다. 이러한 점을 간과하여 국민연금기금의 주식 매매를 일반 기관투자자와 동일하게 간주하는 것은 시장에 미치는 영향을 과소평가하여 시장 변동성을 확대시킬 우려가 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 국민연금기금의 주식 매매가 주가에 미치는 영향을 일반 자산운용사와 비교하여 추정함으로써 향후 기금 운용에 정책적 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 구체적으로 본 연구는 국민연금기금과 일반자산운용사의 2011년 1월부터 2012년 12월까지 상장 주식 매수 및 매도 전후 주가 변화를 사건연구방법을 이용하여 확인하였다. 실증 검증 결과 주식 매수시와 매도시 국민연금기금의 해당 주식 가격에 미치는 영향은 일반 자산운용사에 비해 훨씬 큰 것으로 보이고 매도시에 매수시보다 하락폭이 더 큰 것으로 확인되었다. 이를 통해 볼 때 향후 국민연금기금의 주식 운용에 더욱 주의가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

The national pension fund (NPF) invests 18.12% of their total asset in domestic stocks, and their investment approximately amounts to 7.03% of KOSPI s total market value. As a variety of investors focus on the national pension fund s trading, the NPF is required of high-quality transparency and ethics. Due to such characteristics, the national pension fund is known with a different image and position, compared to other institutional investors. If the national pension fund overlooks the significance of its position in the market, it may lead to severe instability in the stock market. This study examines the price impact of the national pension fund s trading on stock price, compared to other institutional investors trading. FnGuide’s database is employed and the event study methodology is used as we investigate the price impact. The empirical results show that positive ownership change of the national pension fund increases stock prices by a much larger amount, compared to other institutional investors positive ownership change. Likewise, negative ownership change of the national pension fund decreases stock prices by a much larger amount, compared to other institutional investor selling.
