손실정보와 연구개발비지출이 기업가치에 미치는 영향

The Effects of Losses and R&D Investments on Firm Valuation

본 연구는 유가증권시장과 코스닥시장의 손실기업의 경우 손실정보와 연구개발비지출 등이 기업가치평가에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지를 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 유가증권시장의 손실기업을 대상으로 한 분석에서는 해당 모형에서 손실과 매출이 기업가치에 유의적인 음의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 순자산의 장부가치와 연구개발비가 기업가치에 유의적인 양의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 코스닥시장의 손실기업의 대상으로 한 분석에서는 해당 모형에서 손실은 기업가치에 유의적인 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었고, 매출은 기업가치에 유의적인 음의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 순자산의 장부가치와 연구개발비가 기업가치에 유의적인 양의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 연구개발비변수를 포함하지 않은 유가증권시장과 코스닥시장의 손실기업과 비교하여 연구개발비변수가 추가된 모든 모형에서 연구개발비변수가 포함된 유가증권시장과 코스닥시장의 손실기업의 경우 설명력이 증대된 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

This study investigates whether R&D expenditures affect the valuation of losses. Jan, Ou (1995) study the relationship between earnings and market value of loss firms and find that, unlike profit firms, the correlation between these two measures is negative. Darrough, Ye (2007) underscore the importance of R&D for the valuation of loss firms. Accordingly, this study examines whether valuing of losses are due to R&D expenditures. Research results are as follows. First, this study examined the relationship between market and accounting variables except R&D variable. In stock market, earnings and book value affected the market value. The earnings coefficient is negative and significant, but the book value coefficient is positive and significant. In KOSDAQ market, book value affected the market value. The book value coefficient is positive and significant. Second, this study examined the relationship between market and accounting variables contained R&D variable. In stock market, earnings, book value and R&D expenditures affected the market value. The earnings coefficient is negative and significant, but the coefficients of book value and R&D expenditures are positive and significant. In KOSDAQ market, book value and R&D expenditures affected the market value. The coefficients of book value and R&D expenditures are positive and significant.
