삶과 죽음에 대한 한국인 인식의 통계적 관련성 연구

A Study of Relations of Korean’s Perception on Life and Death

이 논문에서는 삶과 죽음에 대한 한국인의 인식들이 서로 어떻게 관련되어 있는지 1,000명을 전화조사하고 통계적인 방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 그를 위해 문항들의 응답들에 대한 교차표와 통계수치들을 이용하여 거기서 나타나는 패턴이나 특징을 분석하였다. 그 결과 현재 자신의 삶에 대한 만족도는 삶에 대한 여타 인식들과 대체로 정(+)의 관련을 강하게 맺고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 죽음에 대한 두려움과 관련된 인식에 있어서는 죽음과 관련된 다른 설문이든 삶과 관련된 질문이든 관련성이 극단 간의 유사성으로 드러났다. 다시 말해서 다른 인식에서 매우 긍정적인 응답을 한 사람과 매우 부정적인 응답을 한 사람에서 죽음에 대한 두려움의 응답 분포가 비슷하였다. 예를 들어 현재 자신의 삶에 매우 만족하는 사람들과 매우 불만인 사람들이 죽음에 대해 두려움에서 비슷한 응답 분포를 보이는 것이다. 따라서 나이, 종교, 성별에 따라 영혼, 사후 세계, 신의 존재 등과 같은 죽음에 대한 인식과 삶의 만족도에 대한 관계는 변하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

In this paper, relations among Koreans’ perception and attitude toward life and death are studied using the survey data of size 1000 obtained by the telephone interview. Our focus is on the satisfaction of life and the fear of death. We analyze response pattern or characteristic of questions using contingency table and statistics. From the survey results we know that the satisfaction of life has positive correlations with perceptions on life, and that the fear of death does not have positive correlations with perceptions on death such as the existence of soul, life after death, and god. For example, people who are very high satisfaction of life and who are very low satisfaction of life will be similar to the response pattern for the fear of death. Therefore, depending on age, religion, and sex, the patterns of relations among perceptions of the satisfaction of life and the fear of death does not change.
