The Impact of Using SNS on the Korean Women’s Political Participation

In this study, first, we observe the patterns of Korean Women’s using SNS and the level of their political participation appeared in 2012 presidential election (with political awareness and political inefficacy). Secondly, to see the impacts of using SNS on political participation and inefficacy, both difference analysis and regression analysis of Korean women’s political awareness level according to the use of SNS are conducted. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, Korean women are not actively using SNS. Second, there are two contrary sides of tendency to the Korean women’s political participation in the 2012 presidential election (high degree for some variables, but low degree for other variables). And, the level of political inefficacy of the respondents is middle or below middle. Third, it is found the difference on some political awareness variables according to the use of SNS. Also, there is a partial relationship between using SNS and women’s political awareness. Fourth, using SNS significantly impacts on women’s political awareness (+) and inefficacy (-). Moreover, age variable positively impacts on political inefficacy.
