This study aims to empirically investigate the pattern of Twitter use regarding top Twitter users across the world, focusing on the relationships between their profiles and usage. For this study, 964 top Twitter users were considered. To collect the users’ detailed profiles, an API-based program and manual coding process were used. As a result, while 640 users (66%) disclose their location information on their own accounts, 324 users (34%) hide their information. Also, 317 users live in high populated cities (5 million and over), and 323 users are in relatively low populated areas (less than 5 million). The statistical results indicate that users who provide their location information more actively use Twitter than users who hide the information. Also, users in high populated cities have more popularity than users in low populated cities. Conversely, low populated areas are more active to make social relationships and communicate with others.
