시각자극의 제시시간, 청각자극의 제시유무 및 두 자극 간 시간간격이 대각형태의 착각적 움직임 지각에 미치는 영향

Effects of the Presentation Time of Visual Stimuli, Presence of Auditory Stimuli, and the Inter-Stimulus Interval on the Diagonal Apparent Motion Perception

본 연구는 대각형태의 착각적 움직임이 지각되는 자극을 사용하여 시각자극의 제시시간, 청각자극의 제시유무 및 두 자극 간 시간간격(inter stimulus interval; ISI)이 이러한 움직임 지각에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 실험 1, 2에서 시각자극의 제시시간과 ISI 조건을 변화시켰다. 또한 단일 양상(청각자극 미제시 조건)의 움직임 지각과 다중 양상(청각자극 제시조건)의 움직임 지각을 살펴보기 위해 시각자극과 함께 청각자극을 제시하였다. 그 결과, 단일 양상조건보다 다중 양상조건이 움직임 지각 반응의 시간적 범위가 확장되는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 시각 가현운동 자극 사이에 제시되는 청각자극이 시각자극과 함께 하나의 지각적 단위로 지각되는 현상인 ‘지각적 집단화’에 의한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 한편 시각자극 제시시간과 ISI의 조합을 통해 살펴본 결과에서 두 조건의 조합이 250ms 이하일 때 자극이 움직이는 것으로 지각되었다. 이는 대각형태의 움직임 지각에 있어 감각양상에 의한 비교와 체계적인 자극의 조합을 통하여 움직임 지각의 변화를 탐색하였다는 데 그 의의가 있다.

This study examined the effect of the presentation time of visual stimuli, presence of auditory stimuli, and the inter-stimulus interval (ISI) on the diagonal apparent motion perception. To investigate motion perception shift, the visual stimuli presentation time and ISI conditions were manipulated. In addition, to understand motion perception for single modality and multiple modalities respectively, auditory stimuli were presented along with visual apparent motion stimuli. As a result, the multiple modality condition showed extensive range of motion perception compared to the singular modality condition. This result can be interpreted in terms of a phenomenon referred to as ‘perceptual grouping’, which is when both the auditory stimulus presented between the visual stimuli are perceived as a single perceptual unit. Meanwhile, taking visual stimuli presentation time and the ISI combination into account, movement was perceived when the two conditions’ combination was under 250ms. Therefore, the current study is meaningful in that the change of perception for diagonal apparent motion was explored regarding systematic stimuli combination with the motion perception shifts compared between modalities.
