Comparison between Newspaper Articles of the Dong-a Ilbo and the Asahi Shimbun - Focused on Rio 2016 Olympics

本稿では、2018年平昌オリンピックや2020年東京オリンピックのように韓国と日本が開催国になった場合の競技記事の比較のための基礎資料として活用することを念頭に置いて、まず、2016年リオオリンピックの競技記事の新聞見出しを対象に、両国の新聞見出しが持っている情報性の特徴を把握しようと試みた。そのために、韓国の『東亜日報』および日本の『朝日新聞』に掲載された競技結果に関する記事から抽出した見出し782件を、｢情報提示型｣·｢情報推測型｣·｢情報無提示型｣の三つに分けたうえで、各類型別の情報提示の特徴による下位分類も試みた。それにより、両国のオリンピックに関する新聞報道の傾向を比較分析した。 その結果、『東亜日報』は｢情報推測型｣のメインタイトルと｢情報提示型｣のサブタイトルの構成を、『朝日新聞』はメインタイトルもサブタイトルも｢情報提示型｣の構成を好む傾向が分かった。即ち、『東亜日報』はメインタイトルで読者の目を引き、サブタイトルで詳しい情報を伝えようとする一方、『朝日新聞』はメインルとサブの両方を使って情報伝達に集中しようとする傾向があると言えよう。このような違いの原因については今後の課題としたい。

We examine informational characteristics of Korean and Japanese newspapers on article headings concerning 2016 Rio Olympics, in order to provide foundational materials to compare articles published by the Olympic host country (such as Korea in 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic and Japan in 2020 Tokyo Olympics). To this end, we extracted 782 article headings concerning the results of games from the Dong-a Ilbo and the Asahi Shimbun, and classified into the presentation of information type, the presumption of information type, and non-presentation of information type, with additional subclassifications depending on characteristics of each of the above three types. The result is as follows. In the case of the Dong-a Ilbo, the main titles tend to be of the presumption of information type, while the subheadings tend to be of the presentation of information type. On the other hand, in the case of the Asahi Shimbun, both of the main headings and subheadings tend to be of the presentation of information type. That is, the strategy of the former seems to be the one where the main headings attract the readers’ attention and the subheadings then present detailed information, while the strategy of the latter seems to be the one where both the main headings and subheadings are generally used to present information. These differences stem from differences between the two countries regarding the degree of national interest in Olympics and the social systems of support for Olympic sportsmen. A detailed analysis must await a future occasion.
